HVAC
High-efficiency heat pumps, air conditioning and ductwork — sized to your house after we have reduced its load, not to a rule of thumb.
Overview
Most Southern California homes have an air conditioner that is too big.
Oversizing is the default failure in residential HVAC. A system sized by square footage alone will be considerably larger than the house needs, which means it cools fast, shuts off before it has dehumidified, and short-cycles its way through a shortened life — while costing more to buy and more to run.
We do a load calculation on the house as it will be after the envelope work, not as it is today. When a roof, attic and windows have been handled first, the correct system is often a full ton smaller than what was there before. That is a cheaper unit, lower running cost, and longer, quieter cycles.
What we include
HVAC services we provide
Heat pump systems
All-electric variable-speed heat pumps that both heat and cool efficiently, and pair well with solar and time-of-use rates.
High-efficiency air conditioning
Replacement condensers and coils correctly matched, charged and commissioned — not just swapped in.
Ductwork replacement and sealing
Leaky ducts in a hot attic can waste a large share of what you pay to cool. We seal, insulate, or replace them.
Mini-split and zoned systems
Ductless solutions for additions, converted garages and rooms the main system never reached properly.
Load calculations and design
Manual J-style load calculation and duct design, documented for permits and for your own records.
Maintenance and commissioning
Airflow verification, refrigerant charge check and static pressure testing, so the system performs at its rating.

In detail
Why we sequence HVAC last
If we install the mechanical equipment before the roof, attic and windows are handled, we have to size it for the worst-case house — the one you are about to stop living in. You would pay for capacity you are about to make unnecessary.
So when a project includes envelope work, HVAC comes after it. We run the load calculation against the finished assembly, specify the equipment to that number, and design the duct system to deliver it.
When HVAC is the only thing you need right now, we will still tell you what the envelope is costing you, and what the system could be if you addressed it later.
